Ballerina thrives in the Top of the South
All for the love of dance
New programmes at NMIT in 2014
Peta Spooner has been introducing people to the joys of
dance for the past 47 years. Her passion for teaching is
shared by her fellow teachers at the Peta Spooner Academy
of Dance, which aims to develop well-rounded dancers
who are gracious, considerate and have a good attitude.
Ballet is a wonderful activity for children, capable of
teaching confidence, poise and grace and the academy has
a reputation for nurturing young talent. Angelina Ballerina
accredited for two years now, the academy has a reputation
for nurturing young dancers.
To become an Angelina Ballerina studio, dance schools
must meet specific criteria, so you can be confident that
your child will learn from a recognised ballet curriculum,
while having fun with Angelina themed class learning
activities and incentives. For little stars with big dreams, an
Angelina Ballerina Academy is a great place to start.
Many of the academy's students -- both male and
female - have gone on to top national dance schools and
professional dance careers, but Peta and her team -- which
includes highly qualified and experienced teachers who
have been with the academy for many years - derive just as
much pleasure from teaching kids who might not be the best
dancers, but do it for the pure and simple pleasure of it.
The academy provides tuition in classical ballet,
contemporary dance, modern jazz and theatre craft.
Students of all abilities get regular opportunities to perform
on stage in front of an audience and all are encouraged to
have faith in themselves so they can achieve their goals.

The programme mix at Nelson Marlborough Institute
of Technology (NMIT) is constantly changing. Here's
what's new for 2014:
New Zealand Diploma in Engineering -- Civil: The two-
year, level 6 programme has industry support, following
an independent research report that found there was a
long-term shortage of civil engineers locally and nationally.
Graduates will leave equipped with the skills to work as
Diploma in Interior Design (Level 5): This one year, Level
5 qualification will provide students with a comprehensive
foundation in interior design including knowledge of
residential building construction, interiors, furnishings and
decorative treatments, hard and soft furnishings, colour
applications, lighting and décor accessories.
Postgraduate Diploma in Business Enterprise: Designed
for people looking to start their own business, as well as
internal entrepreneurs who want to learn about innovation,
entrepreneurship and business enterprise management,
this is a postgraduate (Level 8) qualification for those
who have already completed undergraduate degrees or
have equivalent industry experience. Highly practical and
project-based, it's being delivered in a way that's short,
sharp and tailored to suit people who are already working.
Classes for 'taught' papers are offered over a three-day
Kawai Raupapa Rauangi: Mãori art, whether in its natural
state or technologically produced, is the unmistakable
mark of Aotearoa. This one year certificate will enable
students to explore the intangible underpinnings, spirit,
commitment, interpretations, history and genealogy
of Mãori art. The programme has been provided by
Te Wãnanga o Aotearoa for NMIT to deliver locally and
delivery is subject to approval.
