A myriad of opportunities exist for taking
time out and relaxing or pursuing more
exhilarating activities in Pelorus Sound,
renowned for its scenery, boating,
diving, fishing, and the Nydia Track.
The Havelock Mussel Festival is held
annually in March, while other attractions
and activities are ready and waiting any
day of the week.
Pelorus Sound is the largest of
Marlborough's three sounds, with a main
channel winding south from Cook Strait
for about 55 kilometres, between steeply
sloped wooded hills, into Havelock
Pelorus has several major arms, notably
Tennyson Inlet, Tawhitinui Reach,
Kenepuru Sound and the Crail/Clova/
Beatrix Bay complex. Its shoreline
extends for 380 kilometres around which
there is a plethora of tourism, farming
and seafood industries all offering plenty
of things to do in the area.
Predominant in Pelorus Sound are
mussel farms, pine forests and tourism
lodges and numerous private holiday
homes, with some of the previous only
accessible by boat.

accessible by sea. The Kenepuru Water

Pelorus Sound is also home to the
Nopera golf course, situated on a
working farm and boasting unequalled
$2 million views. Alongside the course
is the Nopera airfield, and just across
the bay are the remains of the HMS
